The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Usman, has formally resigned from his position, citing personal reasons for his decision.

Usman announced his resignation in a personally signed statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday. He said his decision took effect from Monday, February 9, 2026.

In his statement, he said, “It is with deep reflection and gratitude to Allah that I announce my resignation from the office of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON.

“I wish to state unequivocally that this decision is taken entirely for personal reasons. After prayerful contemplation and consultation with my family, I have made this choice in good conscience and with profound respect for the sacred responsibilities of public service.”

He disclosed that his resignation had been formally communicated to President Bola Tinubu in line with Section 3(6) of the NAHCON Establishment Act, 2006.

Usman thanked the President for giving him the opportunity to lead the commission.

“The confidence you placed in me is a privilege I will forever cherish,” he said.

He also appreciated Vice President Kashim Shettima for what he described as “unwavering guidance, encouragement, and support” during his time in office.

The outgoing NAHCON chairman expressed gratitude to board members, staff, and stakeholders for their cooperation, saying their professionalism helped improve Nigeria’s Hajj operations.

“To the management and staff of the commission, I thank you for your collegiality, dedication, and shared sense of purpose. Your professionalism, resilience, and steadfast commitment to service have been truly inspiring,” he said.

He also thanked State Pilgrims Welfare Agencies, tour operators, aviation service providers, and Saudi Arabian partners for their support.

Usman made it clear that his resignation was not connected to any dispute or dissatisfaction with the commission or the federal government.

“My resignation is driven purely by personal considerations and reflects no dissatisfaction with the Commission, the government, or the noble mandate we have collectively pursued,” he stated.

As he stepped down, he offered prayers for Nigeria and the new leadership of NAHCON.

“I ask Allah (SWT) in His infinite mercy to accept our humble efforts, to guide and bless the President and the new leadership of NAHCON, and to grant all future pilgrims a Hajj Mabrur,” he said.

His resignation marks the end of his tenure as head of the commission, as arrangements are expected to be made for new leadership in the coming days.
