Sheikh Abdullahi Pakistan has resigned from his role as Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The resignation was announced late Monday night, February 9, 2026. Sheikh Pakistan was appointed as NAHCON chairman in 2024, taking over from Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi.

His time in office was marked by controversies, including accusations of poor management, corruption, and inefficiency in handling the annual hajj operations. The recent hajj exercise drew heavy criticism due to delays in processing pilgrims’ documents.

Reports indicate that many pilgrims and officials were unable to complete the necessary paperwork on time, with the final day for Saudi authorities to capture documents falling on February 9. The delays created concern that some pilgrims might miss the pilgrimage.

Officials within NAHCON have not yet confirmed who will take over the leadership position following Sheikh Pakistan’s departure. His resignation has sparked reactions from stakeholders in the hajj sector, with many closely watching how the commission will manage the transition.
