Veteran Nigerian gospel singer and songwriter Toun Soetan, also known as Evangelist Shouet, has died at the age of 73.

She was widely known for composing the Christian chorus ‘Darling Jesus,’ a song sung in many churches across Nigeria.

Toun Soetan was respected not only for her music but also for mentoring young gospel artists through her music college.

Many of her students have gone on to become leading figures in gospel music today.

Her contributions to gospel music also include popular songs like ‘Ke Pe Jesu’ and ‘Cast Your Burdens,’ which remain part of worship services in Nigeria.

Fellow gospel musician Peters Olaniyi Olusegun confirmed her passing, offering condolences to her family and husband, Titus Soetan.

Toun Soetan’s death marks the loss of a revered figure in Nigerian gospel music, whose songs and teachings touched generations of believers.
