Cole Palmer marked his return to the scoresheet with a timely goal as Chelsea secured a 2-0 Premier League victory over Everton on Saturday, bringing an end to a frustrating four-match winless streak across all competitions.
The result at Stamford Bridge propelled the Blues back into the top four and offered much-needed relief after a challenging run of form.

Palmer, whose recent campaign has been hampered by injuries, had missed Chelsea’s midweek Champions League defeat away to Atalanta as he continued his recovery from a two-month absence. The attacking midfielder was initially sidelined by a groin issue before suffering a fractured toe after an accident at home. Having made his first start since September in last weekend’s goalless draw against Bournemouth, the 23-year-old looked sharper and more confident against Everton.
The England international broke the deadlock in the 21st minute, capitalising on a well-weighted pass from Malo Gusto. Palmer showed composure as he drove forward and beat fellow England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford at the near post to give Chelsea the lead. The goal settled the hosts and lifted the tempo inside the stadium.

Despite falling behind, Everton controlled large spells of possession and asked questions of Chelsea’s defence. Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was called into action, producing a solid save to deny Jack Grealish as the visitors pressed for an equaliser. However, Everton’s dominance failed to translate into goals.
Chelsea struck again against the run of play in first-half stoppage time. A swift counter-attack saw Pedro Neto deliver a low cut-back into the box, where Gusto arrived to finish clinically and double the home side’s advantage heading into the break.
Everton had opportunities to reduce the deficit after the restart. Carlos Alcaraz delivered an inviting cross to the back post, but Grealish, left unmarked, sent his effort wide. Chelsea remained dangerous on the break and almost added a third when Reece James took a quick free-kick that Pickford did well to tip over the bar.

The visitors came agonisingly close to a consolation goal late on when Iliman Ndiaye burst into the penalty area and saw his shot rebound off the inside of the post, summing up Everton’s afternoon of near misses.
Chelsea ultimately saw out the match with confidence, securing three vital points and restoring momentum as Palmer’s return provided a timely boost.
