Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council, has officially announced his resignation from the party, citing internal conflicts and leadership challenges.

In a statement released on Monday, Okonkwo revealed that his resignation would take effect on February 25, 2025. He expressed his intent to seek political collaborations with Nigerians who align with his vision for good governance.

The veteran Nollywood actor and political advocate played a significant role in the Labour Party’s presidential campaign. However, he emphasized that the party’s current structure no longer supports his aspirations for transparent and effective leadership.

“My involvement in politics is driven by the pursuit of good governance, and I will remain committed to that goal to ensure Nigeria thrives as a nation of integrity. Unfortunately, the Labour Party, as it stands today, does not provide the platform to achieve this,” he stated.

Okonkwo lamented that the party had become dysfunctional, making it impossible for him to continue his political journey under its banner.

“With the party now practically non-existent, I am left with no choice but to resign my membership. To all Nigerians of goodwill who stood by us when it mattered most, I extend my gratitude and reaffirm my loyalty to the people in whatever political path I choose moving forward,” he added.

His resignation date aligns with the second anniversary of the 2023 presidential election, which he described as a symbolic turning point for his political future.
