Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims that he failed to support President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, stating that he has moved past such allegations.

Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, emerged victorious against Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) in the fiercely contested election.

El-Rufai, a prominent APC chieftain, has recently been at the center of political discussions, particularly regarding his stance on governance and his role in the Tinubu administration.

The controversy arose after an X user, Yusuf Tukur (@realYusufTukur), claimed that Tinubu’s camp had actively sought El-Rufai’s support before the election but later accused him of not backing the president.

“When they were desperately seeking El-Rufai’s support, #officialABAT and his allies were full of praises for him. Now, they’ve turned around to claim he never supported Tinubu. But the evidence says otherwise,” the tweet read.

Responding via his X handle, El-Rufai stated that he had no personal expectations from his political actions, adding that the unfolding events were simply a reflection of human nature.

“We did what we did for God, country, and party, expecting nothing in return. What is happening now is just another life experience. We have moved on, but their conscience won’t let them sleep well. Thanks anyway,” he wrote.

Reaffirming his views on governance, El-Rufai insisted that he does not engage in political pretension, likening some politicians to actors.

“Truly, I don’t know how to pretend,” he added.
