Judge Denies DDG’s Motion to Block Ex-Girlfriend Halle Bailey from Leaving U.S. with Their Son, Halo

A Los Angeles judge has denied rapper and YouTuber DDG’s emergency motion seeking to prevent his ex-girlfriend, singer and actress Halle Bailey, from leaving the country with their one-year-old son, Halo, amid an intensifying custody and legal battle.

According to TMZ and court documents viewed by Complex, the court on Thursday, June 5, rejected DDG’s request for a temporary restraining order that would have restricted Bailey’s international travel plans.

This decision clears the way for Bailey, 24, to travel to Italy with Halo, where she is scheduled to film a movie from June 7 through August 4, 2025.

“I must be on set in Italy to film a movie,” Bailey stated in her  court filing. “I am contractually bound to be there… This is my source of income, on which Halo and I rely to pay all bills.” She emphasized that DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., had long been aware of her work commitment overseas.

Bailey also alleged that the rapper has not contributed any regular financial support since Halo’s birth and that she would face significant financial and professional consequences — including a potential breach of contract — if unable to fulfill her filming obligations.

The actress, known for her role in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, further argued that DDG is not in a position to care for Halo during her absence. “Darryl will be out of town a majority of those months,” she wrote, adding that their son is currently protected under a court-issued Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) that limits DDG’s proximity to both mother and child.

That TRO was initially granted on May 13, when a judge awarded Bailey temporary sole legal custody of Halo. The order also required that DDG remain at least 100 yards away from Bailey and their child. Bailey’s filings accuse DDG of physical and verbal abuse, as well as inciting his fanbase to harass her online.

In a countersuit filed just one day before the judge’s ruling — and notably, the same day Bailey’s TRO expired — DDG made a series of serious allegations against Bailey, citing concerns for their son’s emotional and psychological well-being.

He accused Bailey of making “repeated, documented threats of self-harm” and claimed she posed a potential flight risk, suggesting she might “abduct” Halo.

The rapper requested the court to confine Bailey’s travel to California and to compel her to surrender Halo’s passport to his attorney, Larry Bakman, by June 16.

His petition included a sweeping list of behaviors he sought to have barred, including harassment, assault, surveillance, online impersonation, and stalking. DDG also requested the right to record their communications and proposed that Bailey be prohibited from relocating without court approval.

Despite these requests, the judge sided with Bailey, citing her contractual obligations and the previous TRO, allowing her to proceed with her international travel with Halo.

This ongoing dispute marks a sharp and public deterioration of the former couple’s relationship. Once a celebrated young pair in the entertainment industry, their breakup has now evolved into a complex and deeply contentious custody case that continues to unfold under legal and media scrutiny.

As of now, Bailey is expected to depart for Italy on Saturday, June 7, with Halo in tow, as she fulfills her professional obligations abroad. Meanwhile, DDG’s legal team has not issued a public statement following the court’s decision.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

A judge has denied DDG’s urgent request to block his ex-girlfriend, Halle Bailey, from traveling abroad with their son, Halo, allowing her to proceed with a two-month film shoot in Italy.

Despite DDG’s allegations of emotional risk and potential abduction, the court sided with Bailey, who currently holds temporary sole custody and cited contractual work obligations and lack of support from DDG.
