TikTok Permanently Bans Carter Efe

Nigerian comedian, skit maker and content creator Carter Efe, real name Oderhowho Joseph Efe, has lost his official TikTok account after the platform slapped it with a permanent ban over repeated breaches of its community guidelines.

The ban was confirmed on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Screenshots of the ban notice, attached to his widely recognized stage handle “Machala,” began circulating online the same day, showing a message that read simply: “Your account was permanently banned because of multiple policy violations.”

The account had grown into a formidable platform in its own right, boasting over 5.6 million followers and 158 million likes before it was pulled down. It served as Efe’s primary short-form video hub, the engine behind his comedy skits, music promotion, and the live broadcasts that had become a signature part of his online persona.

Notably, this is the second time the content creator has lost a TikTok account. In June 2025, TikTok removed his account, then sitting at roughly 3.5 million followers, following a livestream in which he made critical remarks about Afrobeats star Wizkid.

Wizkid’s fanbase, known as Wizkid FC, had publicly called for mass reporting of the account, and Efe later attributed that ban to their coordinated campaign, issuing an apology at the time. He subsequently rebuilt his presence from scratch, growing it to even greater heights than before, only to now face removal a second time.

The news triggered a wave of reaction on X (formerly Twitter), where users expressed shock that an account with such a large following could disappear from the platform. Some speculated about the cause. One user, @Samuel_Fasuyan, suggested it might be linked to Efe being overly aggressive on live streams. Others framed it as inevitable given his history of controversy.

According to Legit.ng, Efe has reacted to the fresh setback in a largely unbothered fashion, and as with the previous ban, he continues to broadcast and engage his audience through alternative social media channels rather than going quiet.

Industry watchers note the incident highlights the growing vulnerabilities content creators face around platform dependency, copyright enforcement, and community guideline strictures on international social media apps, a precarious reality for influencers whose livelihoods and fan relationships are built almost entirely atop platforms they don’t control.

TikTok has not publicly detailed which specific violations triggered this latest ban, and it remains unclear whether Efe will attempt to appeal or, as he did in 2025, start building anew.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Carter Efe’s TikTok ban, his second in just over a year, underscores a hard truth for influencers: massive followings built on borrowed platforms can vanish overnight, with no guarantee of appeal or explanation.

Despite losing 5.6 million followers, Efe’s swift pivot to alternative channels shows resilience, but the recurring pattern signals a real risk creators face when their livelihood depends entirely on a single platform’s rules.
