Suspected gunmen have launched an attack on Ra Kung village in Ropp District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving one person injured and destroying more than 15 hectares of cultivated farmland.
The incident was confirmed by the Berom Youth Moulders Association through its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, who spoke with journalists in Jos on Friday.
According to the association, the attackers stormed the community at approximately 1:00 a.m., unleashing violence on residents and targeting their means of livelihood.
He said, “The Berom Youth Moulders-Association under the leadership of Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri strongly condemns the attack carried out on the peaceful people of Rakung village, Ropp District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, in the early hours of Friday.
“As a result of this heinous assault, one person sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving medical attention. In addition, over 15 hectares of farmland cultivated with various cash crops were deliberately destroyed by the attackers.”
The group described the assault as part of a recurring pattern of violence in the region, alleging that such attacks are often aimed at displacing local populations, crippling their economic activities, and instilling fear within communities.
It further stressed that the destruction of farmlands, especially during a period when residents are working to boost food production, represents a serious threat to both livelihoods and food security in the area.

The association called on security agencies to take swift and decisive action by identifying and arresting those responsible for the attack, insisting that continued impunity could worsen the security situation.
“It is unacceptable that such acts continue to occur with little or no consequence for those responsible,” the statement added.
The group also urged government authorities at all levels to strengthen protective measures for vulnerable communities, particularly in Barkin Ladi and other parts of Plateau State that have experienced repeated attacks.
In addition, it appealed to humanitarian organisations and relevant agencies to provide urgent assistance to affected residents, especially in the areas of medical care and support for rebuilding destroyed farmlands.
The association disclosed that, in a related development, one individual was reported missing following the attack, raising further concerns about the safety of residents in the affected community.
