Family reveals cause of late army general’s death
The family of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar has rejected claims that he died from diabetes and high blood pressure, saying they believe a different cause led to his death while he was in captivity.
His son said the late army officer had no known history of diabetes or hypertension.
He explained that the family suspects the death may have been due to a heart attack or other causes, adding that some people also believe it could have been linked to a snake bite based on a video released by the kidnappers.
He said the exact cause is still not clear and only God knows what truly happened.
The retired officer, Rabe Abubakar, was abducted on May 30, 2026, in Katsina State alongside his wife.
During the period of captivity, the kidnappers released a video where they demanded the release of some detained fighters and the return of seized livestock in exchange for their freedom.
His son also said the family does not have clear details on how his father’s body was recovered and advised that such questions should be directed to the authorities handling the case.
He further confirmed that the general’s wife is still being held by the kidnappers, saying reports of her release are false. He called for continued efforts to secure her freedom.
The Katsina State Government had earlier announced the death of the former military spokesperson, linking it to complications from diabetes and hypertension, while describing the incident as a painful loss.
