Defence Minister Badaru Resigns on Health Grounds

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has resigned his appointment with immediate effect.

His resignation was communicated in a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu and dated December 1.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development to Channels Television on Monday, explaining that Badaru stepped down on health grounds.

Onanuga further stated that President Tinubu accepted the minister’s resignation and expressed gratitude for his service to the nation.

Presidency sources revealed that the President is expected to notify the Senate of Badaru’s replacement within the week.

Badaru, 63, previously served as the governor of Jigawa State from 2015 to 2023. He was appointed Minister of Defence by President Tinubu on August 21, 2023.

His resignation comes at a time when President Tinubu has declared a national security emergency, with plans to provide further details on its scope soon.
