Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, the platform on which he built his political rise from senator to governor.

He announced his decision late Monday via his X handle, attaching his resignation letter dated November 4, 2025.

The letter, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde in Ede North Local Government, cited the ongoing crisis within the party’s national leadership as the reason for his exit. “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor wrote.

Adeleke expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunities he enjoyed, including his election as Senator representing Osun West from 2017 to 2019, and later as governor. The resignation letter also indicated receipt by the ward chairman on November 4.

However, Adeleke did not reveal which political party he plans to join next, leaving speculation open ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Adeleke’s Political Journey

He rose to prominence after winning the 2017 Osun West senatorial by-election. In 2022, he defeated incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola and was sworn in on November 27 of that year.

His resignation from the PDP now marks a major shift in Osun politics and could shape the political direction of the state in the months ahead.

What you should know

Governor Ademola Adeleke has left the PDP, citing national leadership turmoil.

His resignation raises uncertainties ahead of Osun’s 2026 governorship election.

Though he thanked the PDP for past opportunities, he has not disclosed his next political destination, creating significant interest in his future alliances and Osun’s evolving political landscape.
