The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has reportedly died after collapsing during a party reconciliation meeting in Iyara, the council headquarters.
According to TVC, Solomon collapsed on Friday while attending a meeting organised by a former chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Funsho Olumoko.
The meeting was organised as part of efforts to resolve disagreements among APC stakeholders in the area and promote unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sources said Solomon suddenly collapsed while the meeting was ongoing, causing confusion among those present.
Attempts were reportedly made to revive him before he was taken to a hospital in Kabba for treatment. However, he was said to have died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
The meeting came amid efforts by APC leaders and stakeholders in Ijumu to settle internal differences ahead of the 2027 elections.
Earlier in August, APC stakeholders in the local government had gathered in Iyara and endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo for re-election.
The stakeholders also called for unity among party members.
However, the earlier meeting reportedly ended in disagreements over the leadership of the local government, with Solomon and some other party officials said to have walked out.
