The Commissioner for Water Resources in Kano State, Umar Haruna Doguwa, has resigned from his position.
His resignation was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf received Doguwa’s resignation letter on Monday, March 2, 2026, with the resignation taking effect from Tuesday.
Doguwa’s exit follows the recent resignation of three other commissioners in the state executive council. They include the Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umaru (retd.); the Commissioner for Special Duties, Nasiru Sule Garo; and the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata.
The latest development has sparked speculation about possible restructuring within the Kano State cabinet. However, the government has not officially described the resignations as part of a broader shake-up.
In the statement, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to Doguwa for his dedicated service to the state. He noted that within one year of leading the Ministry of Water Resources, significant progress was made in rehabilitating water facilities across Kano State.
The governor added that efforts were intensified to expand potable water supply to several communities, thereby improving access to clean water for residents. He also stated that Doguwa’s leadership strengthened institutional capacity within the ministry and enhanced service delivery.
Governor Yusuf wished him success in his future endeavours and announced an interim arrangement to ensure continuity in the ministry’s operations.
He directed the Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, to oversee the Ministry of Water Resources pending the appointment or redeployment of a substantive commissioner.
Doguwa’s resignation marks the fourth high-profile exit from the Kano State Executive Council in recent weeks, as political observers continue to monitor developments within the administration.
