Ahmed Musa, former Super Eagles captain and newly appointed General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, has declared his commitment to reviving the fortunes of the once-dominant Nigerian football club.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the club’s Media and Communications Directorate in Kano, Musa outlined his vision to restore the team’s former glory and reestablish its place as one of Africa’s leading football institutions.
During a familiarisation meeting held on Monday with the club’s chairman, Alhaji Ali Umar, and other board members, Musa emphasized his readiness to collaborate with all stakeholders to drive a strategic transformation.
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, who previously played for Leicester City and CSKA Moscow, described his new role as an opportunity to give back to a club that played a formative part in his career.
“Kano Pillars is our club and one of the most successful in Nigeria, but in recent years, the story has changed,” Musa remarked. “I want to assure everyone here that with your support and the backing of the board members, I will do everything possible to reposition the club and make it one of the finest not only in Africa but globally.”
He added that his experience in Europe has equipped him with the knowledge and insight to influence positive change within the team. However, Musa acknowledged that success would depend on unity, professionalism, and a shared vision across the entire footballing ecosystem.
“This is a task that requires collective effort,” he said, underscoring the importance of commitment from club management, players, supporters, and partners. “With determination and the right strategy, we can write a new chapter for Kano Pillars.”
Musa’s appointment as General Manager was recently approved by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, a move widely seen as part of a broader push to reform the club’s structure and operations.
The state government’s support reflects a renewed ambition to not only restore Kano Pillars’ status within the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) but also make it competitive on the continental stage.
Founded in 1990, Kano Pillars has won the NPFL title four times and remains one of the most popular and decorated clubs in Nigerian football. Under Musa’s leadership, fans and analysts alike are hopeful that the club will rise again and adopt international best practices that match the caliber of its legacy.
