Bobrisky, a popular crossdresser and influencer in Nigeria, has shared how he lost $990 in an intricate online romance scam, advising fans to be more cautious with online fraudsters.

The incident was recounted on Instagram, where the socialite confessed that the scammer had assumed the identity of an American who moved to Canada and maintained a relationship with him for months. Romantic dialogue did lull Bobrisky into trust, who admitted saying, “I never thought I’d fall for something like this” later on.

Things fell apart when a client based in the US wanted to pay a deposit for an advertisement through Cash App. Bobrisky told the client he could pass the payment to the scammer, and she subsequently blocked him. “He got the money and vanished,” the influencer wrote, along with chat logs and the alleged scammer’s picture.

Bobrisky remarked how it was uncharacteristic for an influencer like himself to be fooled but emphasized the need to be more cautious when dealing with people online. In the post, he pointed out methods such as prolonged grooming as well as fake relocation stories that could mislead people.

This incident showcases concerns over online fraud within Nigeria, highlighting the growing issue of fraud-oriented social media scams that target both prominent figures and ordinary citizens.

Bobrisky’s warning hit home for followers, some of whom commended him for being honest about the scheme.
