Nigerian Afrobeats star Temidayo Omoniyi, better known as Zlatan Ibile, and his longtime partner Davita Lamai have set fans and colleagues alike abuzz after publicly announcing plans for a wedding celebration, a declaration that arrives with a curious backstory.

The announcement was made in a video that has since gone viral, filmed aboard a private jet as the couple traveled to Lagos for the wedding of music executive Soso Soberekon over the weekend.

They weren’t traveling alone: media personality Toke Makinwa, singer Teni, and a cast of other entertainment figures were on board, turning what might have been a quiet flight into an impromptu celebration of its own.

It was Teni who set the moment in motion, introducing the couple by announcing that “Zlatan and his wonderful wife are going to be having their wedding.”

The floor then passed to Davita, who rose to her feet with Zlatan and extended a warm invitation to those on board, saying she wanted “to extend an invite to everyone” and that “it would be so nice to have everyone there.”

Pressed on whether the invite extended beyond the jet to fans watching online, Davita laughed it off, saying she was too shy for that, keeping the moment light rather than making any grand public gesture.

Notably, the couple stopped short of disclosing a wedding date on camera, though they insisted preparations were already well underway.

What makes the announcement particularly striking is the timeline it caps off. Zlatan had publicly denied being married to Davita as recently as January, despite mounting speculation, and reports have since suggested the pair actually held a private civil wedding in December 2025, details of which only became public later.

That earlier court wedding was reportedly attended only by close family and loved ones, kept deliberately away from the spotlight.

In the months between, speculation simmered: in March, family photos showing the pair embracing and flaunting wedding rings fuelled marital rumors, and Davita added Zlatan’s surname, Omoniyi, to her Instagram handle, further stoking chatter that she was more than just “the mother of his kids,” a label Zlatan had insisted on in January when he pushed back against a viral post, calling it fake and expressing frustration with people sharing unverified claims.

Against that backdrop, this weekend’s jet announcement effectively confirms what had long been rumored, while promising a bigger, more public celebration to come.

Fans have reacted with excitement online, with some anticipating it could become one of the biggest celebrity weddings in Nigeria’s entertainment industry this year, and well-wishers, including actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo, have already begun sending prayers and congratulations to the couple.

Zlatan and Davita, who share two children, their firstborn in 2020 and a second who recently celebrated his first birthday, have built a public relationship marked by affectionate gestures, from Zlatan surprising her with a Mercedes-Benz for her birthday to cheering her on at her Birmingham University graduation.

Whether their forthcoming celebration will finally put a date and venue to months of speculation remains, for now, the one detail the couple is keeping to themselves.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Zlatan Ibile and Davita’s jet announcement isn’t really the beginning of their marriage story it’s confirmation of one that had already quietly happened.

Reports indicate the two secretly held a private civil wedding back in December 2025, even as Zlatan publicly denied being married as recently as January 2026. What fans are now anticipating isn’t a first wedding, but the larger public celebration formalizing a union that, behind the scenes, already exists.
