Top Nigerian army officer killed
A senior Nigerian Army officer, Col Abdussalam A. Ude, has been killed by gunmen during an alleged attempt to abduct him at his residence in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The attack happened on Monday night in the community, which shares a boundary with the Federal Capital Territory.
The location initially led to reports suggesting that the incident occurred in Abuja, but security authorities later clarified that the attack took place in Nasarawa.
Reports from residents revealed that the attackers invaded the officer’s home while heavy rain was falling.
They were said to have tried to take him away, but he resisted their attempt before the gunmen shot him several times.
A resident and a community leader who spoke about the incident confirmed that the officer died during the attack.
The Divisional Police Officer from Kurudu was also said to have visited the area on Tuesday and moved the body to a morgue.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command initially stated that the incident did not happen within its area of responsibility and directed inquiries to the Nasarawa State Police Command.
The Nasarawa State Police Command said it had not received details about the attack at the time of the initial reports.
However, the FCT Police Command later released a statement confirming that investigations showed the incident occurred in Badna, New Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, and not inside Abuja.
The police said the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, directed an immediate investigation after reports of the attack emerged.
The command also ordered the deployment of security and intelligence teams to border communities between Nasarawa and the FCT to stop criminal groups from entering the capital.
