A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Bala Gombe has given former Vice President Atiku Abubakar a seven-day ultimatum to stop presenting himself as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate.
Gombe, in a statement released on Tuesday, said Atiku is not the ADC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. He also asked the former Vice President to apologise to party members and stakeholders for allegedly making unauthorised statements on behalf of the party.
The faction further warned Atiku to stop using the ADC’s name, logo and emblem to spread what it described as false information about the party, saying legal action would be taken if he failed to comply within seven days.
The statement read: “Atiku Abubakar is not and has never been the Presidential Candidate of the ADC for the 2027 General Elections.
“We also give him a 7-day ultimatum to come out and tender a public apology to the members and stakeholders of the ADC for making unauthorised statements on behalf of the party.
“Failure to comply with the above demand within the stipulated period, we shall seek appropriate legal redress.
“Also refrain forthwith from using the Party’s name, logo, and emblem in spreading falsehoods and misinformation about the ADC.”
Gombe also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the names of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Senator David Mark from its portal.
According to him, INEC should instead recognise what he described as the authentic members of the party’s NWC in line with a recent court judgment.
He added: “The judgment directed INEC to withdraw recognition from the David Mark-led NWC and further invalidate all decisions, resolutions, and actions taken by the committee.”
