Acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez has placed the country under a state of emergency after two strong earthquakes shook several areas on Wednesday.
The tremors measured 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude and were followed by more than 20 aftershocks, causing panic across cities, including the capital Caracas.
Authorities said the shaking led to heavy damage in different locations. Buildings collapsed in some parts of the capital, and many residents rushed into the streets for safety.
The Maiquetia International Airport Maiquetia International Airport was ordered shut after officials reported damage to its facilities.
Early reports say at least 32 people have died, while over 700 others were injured.
Rescue teams are still working in affected areas as the government continues to assess the full level of destruction.
The interim leadership of Venezuela said emergency measures are needed to manage the situation and support victims as recovery efforts continue.
