The member representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Jeremiah Umaru, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing concerns over the conduct of the party’s recently concluded primary elections.
Umaru, popularly known as Jakadan Wamba, announced his resignation in a letter addressed to the APC Chairman of Gitta Ward in Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

In the letter dated May 28, 2026, the lawmaker said events surrounding the party’s primary elections left him disappointed and unable to continue his political journey in the ruling party.
He expressed concern over what he described as the gradual loss of the values of fairness, transparency, justice and internal democracy, which he said attracted many members to the party and contributed to its growth.
According to Umaru, the conduct of the primaries weakened his confidence in the party’s commitment to credible and inclusive democratic practices.
The lawmaker stated that, as a loyal member who devoted significant time, effort and resources to building the APC, it was painful to witness what he described as increasing cases of imposition, manipulation and disregard for the wishes of party members.
He said the experiences during the primary elections convinced him that the party was moving away from the principles that once inspired the trust and commitment of its supporters.
“I can no longer, in good conscience, remain part of a system that fails to uphold fairness, credibility, and respect for the aspirations of dedicated members,” he stated.
Despite leaving the APC, Umaru expressed appreciation to party members, leaders and associates he worked with during his time in the party.
He also thanked the party for the opportunities and experiences he gained while serving under its platform and wished members well in their efforts to promote democratic values.
His resignation adds to the growing wave of defections and political realignments in Nasarawa State following the conclusion of party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
