The government of Grenada has announced visa-free entry for Nigerians as part of efforts to strengthen relations with Nigeria and expand cooperation in trade, tourism and investment.

The announcement was made by Grenada’s Consul to Nigeria, Abidemi Sonoiki, during a meeting with journalists in Nigeria.

He said Grenada has already approved free entry for Nigerians and is waiting for Nigeria to respond through official diplomatic channels.

He explained that the policy is aimed at improving movement between both countries and opening more opportunities for business and tourism.

He also noted that discussions are ongoing to create a direct flight route between Nigeria and Grenada, which could begin within about six months if approved.

According to him, better air travel links would make it easier for people to move between both countries and increase trade, tourism and cultural exchange.

He added that Grenada sees Nigeria as a key partner in Africa while positioning itself as a gateway to the wider Caribbean region.

The consul described Grenada as a stable country with a small population of about 125,000 people and a low crime rate.

He said the local currency has remained stable for many years, which has helped to support business growth and foreign investment.

He also explained that tourism is the main part of Grenada’s economy, with visitors coming in for holidays, weddings, education and cultural events.

He said the country offers many opportunities for investors in areas such as tourism, aviation, agriculture, education, fintech, real estate and shipping services.

Sonoiki also mentioned that Grenada is open to skilled workers, including teachers, medical workers, artisans and hospitality staff, but stressed that entry is based on qualifications and immigration rules.

He added that the policy is not meant to encourage unqualified relocation but to attract people who can contribute to the economy.

He further noted that Nigerian students are already present in institutions such as St. George’s University, and the community is gradually growing.

He said stronger cooperation, direct flights and better awareness would help both countries benefit more from trade and investment opportunities.
