A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Tumsah, has officially obtained his nomination form ahead of the party’s governorship primary election in Yobe State.

Tumsah picked up the form at the APC national secretariat, formally confirming his intention to contest for the party’s ticket in the 2027 governorship race.

In a statement released on Friday, the aspirant reaffirmed his commitment to due process and internal democracy, stressing that his participation in the race would be guided by fairness, transparency, and respect for party unity.

“I am fully committed to participating actively in this process, guided by the principles of transparency, fairness, and party unity,” he said.

He also appealed to his supporters to remain peaceful, disciplined, and law-abiding throughout the political process.

“I call on all my supporters to remain focused, peaceful, and resolute as we move forward,” he added.

The international petroleum lawyer expressed concern over reports suggesting that another aspirant may have already received endorsement within the party.

According to him, such moves could undermine internal cohesion and create avoidable divisions among party members.

“Endorsements without broad-based engagement among aspirants risk undermining unity, equity, and fairness within our party,” Tumsah stated.

He called on the national leadership of the APC to remain neutral and ensure that all aspirants are given a fair opportunity to compete.

“I urge the national leadership in Abuja to remain vigilant and ensure strict neutrality. Any attempt to manipulate the process in favour of any individual could damage the credibility of our great party,” he said.

Tumsah further urged party officials to guarantee a level playing field, warning that any perception of bias could weaken confidence in the primary election process.

His comments come amid growing political activity within the APC as aspirants intensify preparations ahead of governorship primaries across several states.

The Yobe governorship primary is expected to take place in the coming weeks as the ruling party begins the process of selecting candidates for the 2027 general elections.

Political observers say Tumsah’s remarks underscore the importance of transparency and internal democracy as the APC navigates succession politics in Yobe State.

His formal entry into the race adds to the growing contest for the party’s governorship ticket and sets the stage for what may become a closely watched primary.

What You Should Know

Kashim Tumsah’s decision to obtain the APC nomination form officially places him in the race for Yobe State’s governorship ticket ahead of 2027.

His warning against pre-arranged endorsements highlights growing concerns over internal party democracy within the APC. Such concerns are common during high-stakes primaries, where perceived imposition of candidates can trigger internal divisions.

By calling for neutrality and fairness, Tumsah is positioning himself as an advocate for transparent competition.

The outcome of the APC primary will likely shape Yobe’s political direction, given the party’s strong influence in the state.
