The Lagos State Government has debunked reports alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign due to health concerns, describing the claim as entirely false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the government said the report, attributed to Sahara Reporters, was “false in its entirety” and part of a recurring pattern of misinformation.
According to the statement, no directive was issued for the governor to step down, stressing that Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally fit, and fully committed to his official responsibilities.
The government also clarified details surrounding a recent meeting between the governor and his deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat. It explained that Hamzat had visited Sanwo-Olu to formally notify him of his intention to contest for the governorship position.
It added that the meeting was routine and cordial, noting that its context had been distorted in the circulating report.
While stating that such claims are often ignored, the government said it found it necessary to respond in order to prevent the public from being misled.
“The report is false. Governor Sanwo-Olu is in good health and continues to discharge his responsibilities,” the statement read.
The state government further urged Nigerians to rely on credible sources for information and to avoid spreading unverified reports, reiterating that the claim should be disregarded in its entirety.
