Akpabio Declares Ondo South Senate Seat Vacant

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has officially declared the Ondo South Senatorial District seat vacant.

Akpabio made the announcement during plenary on Tuesday, explaining that the decision followed the appointment of Jimoh Ibrahim, who previously occupied the seat, as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

He stated that the vacancy must be filled in accordance with the law and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye-election within 30 days.

The Senate President also instructed the Clerk to the National Assembly to formally transmit the resolution of the Senate to INEC for immediate action.

The development sets the stage for a fresh electoral contest in Ondo South as the process to fill the vacant seat begins.
