The Nigerian Air Force has announced that its air operations successfully neutralised terrorist hideouts in the Southern Tumbuns region of Borno State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

According to Ejodame, the mission was carried out on Friday at approximately 1850 hours over Ali Sheriffti, an area identified as a known terrorist stronghold, following credible intelligence reports on insurgent movements.

“The NAF air assets carried out a focused surveillance sweep, during which several insurgents were sighted moving along concealed tracks and were trailed to structures hidden under dense foliage.

“Following positive identification, the NAF executed a precise strike, engaging the structures with onboard munitions.

“The operation achieved the desired effect, with terrorist structures destroyed, further degrading their capability and freedom of movement in the area,” he said.

He explained that the strike reflects the Air Force’s continued emphasis on intelligence-driven and precision-based operations designed to eliminate safe havens used by terrorist groups.

Ejodame also cited the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Aneke, as reiterating the military’s determination to intensify operations against insurgent networks.

He noted that efforts would be sustained and expanded to ensure the protection of lives and property across the country.

“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to pursue and dismantle terrorist networks with unwavering precision and relentless force, ensuring no enclave remains beyond our reach,” he said.

What you should know

The latest airstrike highlights Nigeria’s continued reliance on intelligence-led military operations to combat insurgency, particularly in the North-East.

The Southern Tumbuns area has long been considered a difficult terrain, often used by insurgents as a hideout due to its dense vegetation and remote location. By targeting such enclaves, the Nigerian Air Force aims to disrupt terrorist logistics, mobility, and coordination.

The emphasis on precision strikes also reflects efforts to improve operational efficiency while minimising collateral damage, as security agencies intensify campaigns to restore stability in affected regions.
