Nigerian content creator Kevin Chinedu, popularly known as Kevinblak or Governor Amuneke, has disclosed that he was once offered money in dollars by members of a political party to influence the direction of his satirical content.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television, the content creator said the offer was made to persuade him to adjust his skits, which often critique politicians and governance issues.

According to him, the incident occurred during a financially challenging period in his life, shortly after his wife underwent a Caesarean section. He explained that he was invited to Abuja with promises of financial support and a better lifestyle.

“I was approached with cash by members of a political party to alter my content. They said they were going to change my life, that I’m earning crumbs, you know, give me dollars. They mentioned that my colleagues are in the game and all of that.

“I had a lot of bills on my head and I just heard come, come to Abuja, let’s change your life. Dollars upon dollars.

“I looked at it, I said, no, I am who I am. I’ve been here for a long time, and I’ve never been in any illegal thing, and I’ve never been somewhere, you know, I’m doing something because I’m being influenced, because of money.

“If I want to do it, it should be something I’m doing because I want to do it. So, you know, it is what it is,” he said.

Kevinblak noted that he deliberately chose not to reveal the identity of the political party involved, instead referring to it humorously as “Amuneke’s party,” a fictional reference from his comedy skits. He also cautioned against attempts to speculate or expose the group publicly.

“Don’t mention names, trust me, don’t mention names,” he added.

The comedian further revealed that his close circle shares similar values, stating that some of his friends had also received similar offers but turned them down.

“I don’t have friends that are easily overwhelmed with money. I have people who have principles because they have, you know, approached them, they themselves. So, we always have that conversation,” he said.

His revelation highlights the pressures faced by content creators who use satire and comedy as tools for public accountability, especially in politically sensitive environments.

What you should know

Kevinblak revealed he was offered money in dollars by a political party to influence his satirical content but declined the offer.

He said the approach came during a financially difficult time, making the decision more challenging. Despite the pressure, he chose to maintain his independence and integrity. He refused to name the party, instead using a fictional reference from his skits.

He also noted that some of his friends faced similar offers and rejected them.

The incident sheds light on the influence attempts faced by creators who address political issues and the importance of maintaining ethical standards in content creation.
