The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated clearly that he has not endorsed any individual for upcoming political contests in Rivers State, stressing that such decisions are the responsibility of party elders.
Wike made this known while addressing a joint meeting of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress and Peoples Democratic Party at his residence in Life Camp, Abuja, on Monday night.

During the gathering, the minister cautioned politicians against rushing into endorsements, warning that such actions could deepen divisions fueled by personal ambition. He emphasized that the strength of the current political alliance lies in unity rather than financial influence.
“If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult. People are not happy that we are working together, so they must find anything to make sure we are divided,” Wike stated.
He further alleged that there are external forces attempting to destabilize the group due to its strong collaboration, urging members to remain focused and united.
Wike also expressed disappointment in some individuals who, after benefiting from political appointments facilitated by the group, have turned against its leadership. He described such actions as a reflection of poor character and warned that attempts to undermine others through deception would ultimately fail.
“Woe be unto the person that we have given an appointment [who] goes back to castigate,” he said, adding that many who once sought his mentorship can no longer face him.
Addressing speculations surrounding endorsements ahead of future elections, Wike dismissed claims that he had privately supported any candidates for state-level offices. He maintained that his stance remains consistent both publicly and privately.
“Anything I say in the night is what I will say in the daytime,” he said.

The minister clarified that the only endorsement currently recognized by the group is for Bola Tinubu, reaffirming his support for the president while ruling out any backing for candidates in either party at the state level until party elders convene to decide.
Wike also commended council chairmen, Rivers elders, and party leaders for their coordination in organizing the meeting, noting that the absence of complaints about inclusiveness reflected the success of the gathering.
What you should know
Nyesom Wike’s remarks highlight ongoing political maneuvering in Rivers State, where alliances between APC and PDP stakeholders continue to shape the state’s power dynamics.
His refusal to endorse any candidate signals a strategic pause, likely aimed at maintaining unity within the coalition while awaiting collective decisions from party elders.
By reaffirming support for President Bola Tinubu alone, Wike underscores his broader political alignment at the national level, while keeping state-level ambitions open and carefully managed.
