Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that there is only one Peoples Democratic Party, dismissing claims that the party is divided into factions.

Wike made this known in Abuja on Wednesday while addressing journalists after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across the FCT.

He acknowledged that dissatisfaction among party members is not unusual in politics and revealed that reconciliation efforts are currently underway as the party prepares for its National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.

The minister explained that holding the convention would not hinder ongoing peace efforts, noting that reconciliation discussions could continue even after the event.

“As far as I am concerned, there is only one PDP, and it would be incorrect to suggest otherwise,” Wike said.

He further disclosed that party primaries are expected to take place between April 23 and May 13, in accordance with the Electoral Act and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

“This timeline leaves little room for delays,” he added.

What you should know

Nyesom Wike has dismissed claims of division within the PDP, insisting the party remains united despite internal disagreements.

While tensions have been reported, reconciliation talks are ongoing as the party prepares for its National Convention. Wike also confirmed that the convention will not disrupt peace efforts, which may continue afterward.

With party primaries scheduled shortly after, the PDP faces a tight timeline to resolve internal issues and present a united front ahead of upcoming political activities and future elections.
