The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has removed the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Sagagi, from office with immediate effect.

The development was announced on Thursday in an official statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.

The statement confirmed that the former commissioner has been directed to step aside and hand over all responsibilities.

Sagagi is expected to transfer the affairs of the ministry to the Director of Commerce. The arrangement will remain in place until the government announces a substantive replacement.

Despite the sudden removal, Governor Yusuf acknowledged the contributions made by Sagagi during his time in office.

He noted that the former commissioner made significant contributions in areas related to politics, religious engagement, and support for small and medium-scale businesses.

“Governor Yusuf acknowledges Sagagi’s contributions, particularly in the areas of politics, religion and support for small and medium enterprises,” the statement read.

The governor also wished him well in his future endeavours. He added that his administration remains committed to improving governance and ensuring that public service produces meaningful results for the people of Kano State.

According to the statement, the decision is part of wider efforts to restructure key government institutions in order to improve performance, encourage economic growth, and promote long-term development in the state.

The removal comes shortly after another major change in the state’s civil service. The governor had earlier relieved the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his duties.

In his place, the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services in the Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, was appointed to take over in an acting capacity.
