A former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after spending more than two decades in the party.

Akinjide announced her decision in a resignation letter dated Monday, March 30, 2026, stating that the decision takes immediate effect.

The former minister, who joined the PDP in 2001, said her decision followed a long period of personal reflection.

In the letter announcing her exit, Akinjide expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities it provided throughout her political career.

“I hereby formally give you notice of my resignation as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” she wrote.

Akinjide explained that leaving the party was not an easy decision because of her long-standing relationship with it.

“This decision was not taken lightly, given the fact that I have been a member of the party since 2001,” she stated.

“I came to this difficult decision after a long period of personal reflection.”

The former minister also thanked the PDP for providing a platform that allowed her to participate in public service and political activities.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a member of the party and the experiences and relationships built during my time as a member of the party,” she said.

She further wished the party success in its future political engagements.

“I appreciate the platform provided for political office and engagement, and I wish the party success in the future. Thank you.”

Akinjide served as Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
