President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved fresh appointments into key federal agencies, naming a new chairman for the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and nominating seven commissioners for the National Population Commission (NPC).

The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The statement explained that the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen governance structures across key national institutions.

According to the statement, former senator Ibrahim Ida has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission.

The presidency noted that his background in finance and public administration would be valuable in the role.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Sen. Dr Ibrahim Ida as Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission and nominated seven people to fill vacant commissioner positions at the National Population Commission.

“Ida holds an MSc in Banking and Finance from the University of Ibadan and an LLB from the University of Abuja,” the statement said.

Ida previously represented Katsina Central Senatorial District in the Senate after his election in 2017. Before then, he served as Commissioner of Finance in Katsina State.

He also worked as a Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, where he gained extensive administrative experience.

In the same development, President Tinubu forwarded the names of seven nominees to fill vacant commissioner positions at the National Population Commission. Their appointments will be subject to confirmation by the National Assembly of Nigeria.

Those nominated include Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi from Ekiti State, Nasiru Mu’azu from Zamfara State, Usman Abubakar Tuggar from Bauchi State, Isaka Alada Yahaya from Kwara State, Sadiq Isah Radda from Katsina State, Suleiman Umar from Jigawa State, and Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo from Sokoto State.

The presidency explained that the nominations are intended to strengthen the commission by supporting the work of the current federal commissioners already serving in the agency.

In a related development, the President also appointed Yusuf Mohammed from Kano State as Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo.

Additionally, Bala Bello has been confirmed as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

Bello, an indigene of Kebbi State, holds a degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Before this appointment, he served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and also worked as Executive Director (Corporate Services) at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank between 2017 and 2022.

The presidency expressed confidence that the newly appointed officials would perform effectively in their roles and support the administration’s policy direction.
