The All Progressives Congress has emerged victorious in the by-elections conducted on Saturday to fill the vacant seats representing Ungogo and Kano Municipal constituencies in the Kano State House of Assembly.

The legislative positions became vacant after the sudden passing of the lawmakers for Ungogo Constituency, Aminu Sa’ad, and Kano Municipal Constituency, Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who both died on the same day, creating the need for fresh polls to restore representation.

Kano Assembly

In the newly concluded elections, the sons of the late legislators clinched overwhelming victories. Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad won the Ungogo seat, while Aliyu Nabil Daneji secured the Kano Municipal mandate.

For Ungogo Constituency, the Independent National Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Prof. Ali Tijjani Abdullahi, declared the APC candidate, Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad, the winner after he polled 8,975 votes.

His closest opponent, Shua’ibu Hashimu of the Action Democratic Party, recorded 54 votes.

“Aminu Sa’ad Sa’ad of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Prof. Abdullahi stated.

Similarly, in Kano Municipal Constituency, INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo Siraj, announced Aliyu Nabil Daneji of the APC as the winner after he garnered 7,484 votes.

Bye-Election

Daneji defeated Shehu Ishaq Abdullahi of the Peoples Redemption Party, who secured 105 votes in the contest.

“Aliyu Nabil Daneji of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” Prof. Siraj said.

The by-elections were organised to ensure that both constituencies regained representation in the Kano State House of Assembly following the unexpected deaths of their former lawmakers.
