Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for overseeing what he described as a calm and well-organised by-election across parts of the state.

His remarks were conveyed in a statement released on Saturday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, following the conclusion of the polls.

Bye-Election In Kano

The by-elections took place in the Kano Municipal and Ungogo State Assembly constituencies to fill vacant positions in the State House of Assembly.

Governor Yusuf characterised the exercise as a significant step forward in Kano’s democratic development, noting that the orderly atmosphere observed at polling units reflected the electorate’s growing political awareness and responsibility.

“The calm atmosphere witnessed during the by-election clearly demonstrates the growing political maturity of our people and the effectiveness of the security arrangements put in place,” the governor was quoted as saying.

He expressed appreciation to residents of Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies for maintaining discipline and participating peacefully throughout the voting process.

Bye-Elections

“I appreciate the people of Kano Municipal and Ungogo for their discipline, cooperation, and commitment to peaceful participation in the electoral process,” he said.

The governor also commended political parties and various stakeholders for complying with established electoral rules, specifically acknowledging members of the All Progressives Congress for what he termed their commendable and responsible behaviour during the exercise.

“For the first time in recent history, we witnessed an election free of crisis, use of weapons, and any form of manipulation in Kano. This development aligns with our Kano First Agenda. The era of killing, maiming, and disenfranchising voters is over,” he stated.

Governor Yusuf further observed that the smooth conduct of the by-election signals a transition toward politics focused on issues, constructive dialogue, and mutual respect for democratic principles.

“The success of this election shows that Kano is ready to embrace issue-based politics anchored on dialogue and mutual respect,” he added.

He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to safeguard lives and property, pledging continued collaboration with electoral authorities and security agencies to ensure future elections remain credible, transparent, and free from violence.

The by-elections were conducted under heightened security presence and were widely reported to have proceeded peacefully, with no significant disturbances recorded in the affected constituencies.

Governor Abba Yusuf has applauded INEC and security agencies for the orderly conduct of the Kano State by-elections in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies.

The exercise was largely peaceful, with no major incidents reported, and the governor described it as a sign of increasing political maturity and a move toward issue-based politics.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting credible and violence-free elections in the state.
