Timothée Chalamet has secured his place in Academy Awards history, becoming only the second actor to receive three Best Actor nominations before turning 30, a distinction previously held exclusively by legendary performer Marlon Brando.

The 29-year-old actor earned his latest nomination for his portrayal in the upcoming “Marty Supreme,” joining his previous nods for “Call Me By Your Name” in 2018 and this year’s “A Complete Unknown.” The achievement places Chalamet in rarefied air, matching a record that has stood untouched for over seven decades.

Brando, who would go on to become one of cinema’s most influential actors, last accomplished this feat in 1954 with his nomination for “On the Waterfront”—a performance that would earn him his first Oscar win. The parallel between the two actors has not been lost on industry observers, who have long drawn comparisons between Chalamet’s mercurial talent and Brando’s revolutionary approach to performance.

Chalamet’s first nomination came at age 22 for his breakthrough role as Elio in Luca Guadagnino’s coming-of-age romance “Call Me By Your Name,” where his vulnerable, career-defining performance announced him as one of his generation’s most compelling talents. His second nomination for “A Complete Unknown” has further cemented his reputation as an actor capable of disappearing into complex, demanding roles.

The third nomination for “Marty Supreme” marks yet another collaboration between Chalamet and acclaimed directors who have consistently championed his work throughout his still-young career.

Whether Chalamet will follow Brando’s path to Oscar glory remains to be seen, but the historic nature of his achievement underscores the remarkable trajectory of an actor who has become one of contemporary cinema’s most bankable and critically acclaimed stars.

The 97th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 2025.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Timothée Chalamet has made Oscar history as the youngest actor in 70 years to receive three Best Actor nominations before age 30—a milestone last achieved by Marlon Brando in 1954. With nominations for “Call Me By Your Name” (2018), “A Complete Unknown” (2024), and “Marty Supreme” (2025), the 29-year-old has solidified his status as one of the most exceptional talents of his generation, joining one of cinema’s greatest legends in the record books.
