TikToker’s Lawyer Threatens Legal Action Against Pastor Adeboye Over Arrest Controversy

Inibehe Effiong, lead counsel for TikToker-turned-activist Olumide Ogunsanwo, popularly known as SeaKing, has threatened legal action against Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). This follows a statement from the church supporting SeaKing’s arrest for allegedly insulting the cleric.

SeaKing was detained in December 2024 after criticizing Adeboye’s call for Nigerians to observe a 100-day fast, which he described as “stupid.” His arrest, initiated by the Concerned Christian Youth Forum’s petition to the Lagos State Police Command, sparked widespread online backlash.

During a recent Holy Ghost Congress, Adeboye distanced himself from the arrest, claiming ignorance of the situation. Shortly after, SeaKing was granted administrative bail. However, RCCG later issued a statement reaffirming its support for the arrest, stating that the petition was filed “on behalf of the Fathers of Faith, including Pastor Enoch Adeboye.”

Reacting to the statement, Effiong condemned RCCG’s position and warned that Adeboye could be named in a lawsuit if the statement was not retracted within 24 hours. He accused the church of aligning with the police to suppress criticism and violating his client’s fundamental rights.

The lawyer also cautioned religious leaders against using law enforcement to silence critics, stating, “Vengeance should be left to the Lord, not the police.”
