Hip-hop artist Playboi Carti, whose real name is Jordan Terrell Carter, has been charged with misdemeanor assault following an incident that allegedly occurred during his Antagonist Tour stop in Utah earlier this month, according to law enforcement officials.
The charges stem from an October 2nd incident involving a limousine driver who was transporting the 28-year-old rapper and his entourage from the Waldorf Astoria resort in Park City to a rehearsal venue.
According to the driver, Carl Reynolds, what began as a routine transport quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. Reynolds, who was employed by ALC A Limousine Connection at the time, alleges that Carti and his girlfriend became embroiled in a heated argument in the vehicle’s back seat—reportedly concerning their intimate relationship.
The situation allegedly deteriorated when Reynolds attempted to intervene. According to his account, the “Rather Lie” rapper threatened violence against both Reynolds and his own girlfriend. Reynolds claims Carti then physically assaulted his partner, striking her in the chest.
Concerned for everyone’s safety, Reynolds says he pulled the limousine over to what he deemed a safer location along the highway in Heber City. He then reportedly urged Carti’s head of security to remove the rapper from his vehicle and transfer him to a separate car in the entourage.
It was at this point, Reynolds alleges, that Carti struck him in the face without warning as the rapper’s girlfriend was exiting the vehicle. Reynolds claims the blow left him with a swollen, bruised jaw and symptoms consistent with whiplash. The alleged assault was reportedly broken up by Carti’s head of security.
Wasatch County police were called to the scene and documented Reynolds’ injuries with photographs, according to sources close to the investigation. The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that they are actively investigating the matter.
Reynolds claims that another driver employed by ALC A Limousine Connection witnessed the alleged attack, potentially providing corroborating testimony for the case.
Reynolds indicated that he is in the process of retaining legal counsel. However, he stated that his primary concern extends beyond legal recourse—he wants to ensure that Carti doesn’t harm anyone else in the future, including the rapper’s girlfriend.
The alleged incident occurred while Carti was in Utah for a stop on his highly anticipated Antagonist Tour. The Atlanta-based rapper, known for hits like “Magnolia” and “Shoota,” has built a devoted following for his experimental approach to trap music and his association with the Opium record label.
As of press time, representatives for Playboi Carti have not responded to requests for comment regarding the charges. The misdemeanor assault charge is currently pending, and it remains unclear how this legal matter may affect the remainder of his tour schedule.
