Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is poised to join Manchester City on transfer deadline day, Monday, September 1, 2025, following a reported €35 million ($41 million) agreement with Paris Saint-Germain.

The 26-year-old, a key figure in PSG’s Champions League triumph last season, has been seeking a new club after PSG deemed him unnecessary for their plans.

During the off-season, PSG acquired 23-year-old Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, with coach Luis Enrique clearly stating that the Frenchman will be the primary goalkeeper for the upcoming season.

Initially, it was thought that Donnarumma’s move to Manchester City would depend on the departure of their long-standing first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson. However, the PA news agency reports that a deal has now been finalized for the Italian to transfer to City.

Manchester City signed Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford during the close season, and he has started all three of their Premier League matches this season, but the young Englishman has yet to fully impress.

What You Should Know

Gianluigi Donnarumma, a 26-year-old Italian international, is set to transfer to Manchester City from Paris Saint-Germain for €35 million ($41 million) on September 1, 2025.

PSG’s decision to favor 23-year-old Lucas Chevalier as their primary goalkeeper rendered Donnarumma surplus, despite his pivotal role in their Champions League victory last season.

Although Donnarumma’s move was initially contingent on Ederson’s exit, an agreement has been reached. Manchester City’s recent signing, James Trafford, has started the season but struggled to convince, paving the way for Donnarumma’s arrival.
