In a candid and heartfelt revelation, Nollywood star Daniel Etim-Effiong has shared the emotional twists and turns that led him to his wife, Toyosi, revealing a story of heartbreak, destiny, and unexpected love.
Speaking on With Chude, the popular talk show hosted by Chude Jideonwo, the actor opened up about how a painful rejection from a former girlfriend set the stage for his journey to finding “the one.”
Etim-Effiong, known for his captivating performances on screen, bared his soul about a moment in his life when he was ready to settle down but faced disappointment.
While living in South Africa, the actor was in a relationship with a woman he believed could be his future wife. “I was tired of dealing with several relationships,” he confessed, explaining how he had grown weary of casual dating and yearned for something deeper. “I told her, ‘I think I’m ready to get married,’ but she wasn’t ready.”
The woman, who was not Nigerian, had her sights set on pursuing graduate studies in the United States and was unwilling to commit to marriage. “She didn’t want to, for lack of a better word, be tied,” Etim-Effiong recounted.
Despite his readiness to build a life together, her priorities lay elsewhere, leading to the end of their relationship. “I was disappointed, like, what is she talking about? We could do so many things together,” he added, reflecting on the emotional weight of the rejection.
But as one door closed, fate opened another. Shortly after the breakup, Etim-Effiong returned to Nigeria for a film project, a decision that would change his life forever. It was on this project that he crossed paths with Toyosi, who was working as the production manager.
The two had been in contact prior to meeting in person, but their face-to-face encounter marked the beginning of something special. “It was her first job in Nigeria when she came back from New York,” Etim-Effiong shared. “We met, and we started to talk.”
What began as a professional interaction quickly evolved into a meaningful connection. During a heartfelt conversation, Etim-Effiong wasted no time in expressing his intentions.
“I told her that I really want to get married,” he said. To his surprise and delight, Toyosi’s response was both direct and affirming: “Let’s do it.” Her openness to marriage and shared vision for the future stood in stark contrast to his previous experience, igniting a spark that led to their enduring partnership.
Etim-Effiong got married to his wife, Toyosi, in November 2017, a year after they met. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl, in January 2019.
