The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre.

The order was issued on Monday by Justice Mohammed Umar following the revocation of Sowore’s bail last week.

Sowore will remain in custody until Wednesday.

The court made the order after Justice Umar dismissed an application filed by Sowore seeking the judge’s withdrawal from the case.

The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting Sowore over public comments in which he allegedly described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a criminal. However, Sowore has denied the allegation.

During Monday’s proceedings, Sowore represented himself in court. He told the court that his legal team had stopped appearing in the case because of what they described as continuous unfair treatment and hostility from the judge.

According to Sowore, his lawyers became afraid to continue representing him, which led him to personally file and argue a fresh application requesting the judge to step down from the matter.

He also stated that an earlier request made to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to transfer the case to another judge was rejected.
