Popular pastor found dead in hotel
A 71-year-old cleric, Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, has been found dead in a hotel in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, shortly before he was expected to be ordained into a senior prayer position in a church programme.
He had travelled to Akungba-Akoko to take part in a religious event organised by the Cherubim and Seraphim Church at Ogo Orimolade C&S Church, Okerigbo.
The ceremony was meant to formally place him in a spiritual leadership role during the gathering.
However, he was later discovered lifeless inside the hotel where he lodged ahead of the programme.
The news of his death caused concern among his family members and church associates, who began asking questions about what led to the incident.
Reports also indicated that his body was moved from the hotel to a mortuary in Ikare-Akoko before a medical officer officially confirmed the cause of death.
This action raised further concern among relatives, who felt proper steps may not have been followed.
The family later reported the matter to security authorities, leading to an investigation.
Officers have started looking into his movements before his death, including people he interacted with during his stay in the town.
So far, three persons have been taken in by the police to assist with inquiries as detectives continue their work.
The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed that the case is under investigation.
He said officers are working to establish the cause of death and to know if there was any wrongdoing involved.
He added that anyone found responsible after the investigation will face legal action according to the law.
