The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has passed away.
A source within the palace confirmed the development to Nigerian Tribune, revealing that the traditional ruler died after a brief illness at his residence in Ibadan.
According to the publication, members of the Omo Oye group had already departed for the late chief’s home following news of his death.
Until his passing, Oba Isioye-Dada held the position of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, one of the prominent chieftaincy titles within the Ibadan traditional system.
His death is expected to trigger a series of promotions among chiefs and high chiefs on the Balogun line in line with the succession arrangement of the Ibadan traditional hierarchy.
Among those expected to benefit from the development is Senator Sharafadeen Ali, who is seeking the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Ali is set to move from the position of Ekaarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland.
Also expected to advance in rank is Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin, who will be elevated from Ekerin Balogun to Asipa Balogun of Ibadanland as the traditional succession process continues.
The death of Oba Isioye-Dada marks the end of his service as Osi Balogun and opens the way for the next round of movements within the Balogun line of the Ibadan chieftaincy structure.
