Top LG chairman resigns, dumps APC
The Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Isa Kalanjeni, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and also stepped down as the elected chairman of the council.
His decisions were made known through two separate letters released to journalists in Sokoto.
The letters showed that Kalanjeni first ended his membership of the APC before later resigning from his position as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area.
In the letter sent to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward in Tangaza Local Government Area, Kalanjeni announced that he was leaving the ruling party with immediate effect.
He said the decision was based on personal reasons and thanked the party for giving him the chance to be a member.
In another letter addressed to the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Kalanjeni informed the state government that he was also resigning as the elected chairman of the council with immediate effect.
He explained that the decision followed wide consultations with his family, political allies and members of his community before he finally decided to leave office.
Kalanjeni also said he had been facing administrative problems that made it difficult for him to continue carrying out the duties of the office in the way he wanted.
Before ending his tenure, he thanked the people of Tangaza Local Government Area for giving him the opportunity to serve.
He also appreciated members of the council’s legislative arm and the council staff for their support during his time in office.
He wished those who would take over the leadership of the local government success in running the affairs of the council.
As of the time the development became public, the Sokoto State Government and the APC in the state had not released any official response to Kalanjeni’s resignation from the party or his decision to leave office.
