Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, has said he is willing to give up his ambition to hold public office if a proper review of his records shows that he is not fit to serve Nigeria.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate said those seeking political positions should be carefully examined before they are elected into office.

Obi made this known during an interview with Chude, where he spoke about the need for openness and accountability among political leaders.

He said he has no problem with anyone checking his background, records, or past actions if it would help Nigerians make informed decisions about those asking for their votes.

The former Anambra State governor said he believes every politician should face public scrutiny before elections rather than after taking office.

According to him, Nigerians have often discovered troubling information about elected leaders only after they assumed power, a situation he believes could be avoided if proper checks were carried out before elections.

Obi said he is ready to accept the outcome of any fair investigation into his past.

He explained that if such a process proves he is not qualified to lead the country, he would willingly withdraw instead of remaining in the race.

He said: “Let’s examine everything now. If I’m not qualified to serve this country, I will simply withdraw. I have nothing to hide and would rather withdraw from the race than continue if evidence showed I was unfit to lead. Public officials should be subjected to scrutiny before they are entrusted with leadership responsibilities.”
