State Governor Increases Workers Salary
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced a ₦10,000 salary top-up for all workers in the state as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices.
Makinde made the announcement on Monday at a programme held in Ibadan, the state capital.
The governor said the additional payment would serve as petrol and transportation support for workers amid the economic challenges.
“I’m happy to announce that all workers in Oyo State and the local government starting from April, at least for the first three months, will be given ₦10,000 in addition to their monthly salary as petrol/transportation support. All workers, everybody. It is a flat rate. Maybe it would be extended,” he said.
Makinde noted that the initiative would initially run for three months but could be extended depending on prevailing economic conditions.
The governor also hinted that residents outside the state workforce could benefit from the intervention.
“Those who are not working with the Oyo State government may also benefit from it. We will handle it properly to ensure it is all-inclusive,” he added.
Makinde emphasised that as his administration winds down, efforts are being made to ensure continuity of impactful policies.
“As I approach the end of my administration, one of the things I’m particularly focused on is ensuring continuity,” he said.
