State governor gifts corps member 20k

Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has given ₦20,000 each to 1,490 members of the National Youth Service Corps deployed to the state for the 2026 Batch B, Stream II service year.

The financial support amounts to ₦29.8 million and is meant to help the corps members meet transportation costs and other immediate needs as they leave the orientation camp for their places of primary assignment across Kogi State.

The donation was announced during the closing ceremony of the three-week NYSC Batch B, Stream II orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba.

Ododo was represented at the ceremony by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Anyebe.

The governor said his administration remained committed to supporting young people and creating opportunities that would enable them to contribute to the development of Kogi State.

He urged the corps members to conduct themselves responsibly in their host communities and apply the knowledge and skills gained during the orientation course to assist people around them.

Ododo also encouraged them to take part in projects and activities that could improve the welfare of residents in their various places of primary assignment.

He charged the corps members to serve as positive examples and promote values such as discipline, integrity, patriotism and dedication throughout their service year.

The governor congratulated them on completing their university education and beginning another stage of their lives through the mandatory national service programme.

He further assured the corps members that the Kogi State Government would continue to pay attention to their welfare and safety while they remain in the state.

Ododo also called on communities hosting the corps members to make them feel welcome and provide a peaceful and secure environment during their stay.

The Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Chris Tochi, said the corps members had spent three weeks undergoing physical, mental and moral training at the orientation camp.

According to her, the programme exposed them to information, knowledge and skills needed to prepare them for the demands of their service year and their roles in their host communities.

Tochi thanked the governor for his continued assistance to corps members serving in Kogi State. She noted that his support had included the provision of food items and financial assistance.

She described the latest ₦20,000 payment as a timely intervention that would provide some relief for the corps members as they begin their primary assignments.

The 1,490 corps members were deployed to Kogi State as part of the 2026 Batch B, Stream II NYSC orientation exercise held at the permanent camp in Asaya, Kabba.
