In a move aimed at unifying leadership and building consensus, key figures of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) converged in Abuja on Wednesday for a strategic caucus meeting, ahead of the party’s crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) session scheduled for Thursday.
The closed-door gathering, held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in the Federal Capital Territory, was convened by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
Five serving governors attended the meeting: Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, and the host, Governor Bala Mohammed. The session focused on reaching a unified stance on key issues expected to dominate Thursday’s NEC meeting.
Also present were top national officials of the PDP, including Acting National Chairman Umar Damagun, National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and several members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
The NEC meeting is expected to ratify crucial decisions previously taken by the National Working Committee (NWC), including plans for the upcoming national elective convention. Party leaders believe the caucus discussions will help smoothen deliberations and bolster internal unity.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to reposition the PDP and reinforce its political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
