The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has scheduled May 26 for its primaries across all elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, in a statement issued in Abuja, confirming that the primaries will cover positions ranging from State Houses of Assembly to the presidency.

According to him, the party has opted to adopt the consensus mode of election in all wards nationwide, in line with its internal strategy.

Johnson added that the decision has already been formally communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is responsible for overseeing electoral processes in the country.

He further revealed that INEC recently conducted a verification exercise at the party’s national secretariat on April 23, describing the process as successful and significant for the party’s internal stability.

“The seamless execution of this exercise serves as a definitive official validation of the Hon. Bala Mohammad-led National Working Committee (NWC).

“It effectively silences the delusions of grandeur harboured by expelled members and reaffirms our standing as the only recognised leadership of the NNPP,” he stated.

The party also used the opportunity to address ongoing internal disputes, dismissing claims by expelled members challenging the authority of the current leadership.

Johnson described their legal actions as “shadow-boxing,” insisting that a subsisting judgment from the Federal High Court in Abuja had already affirmed that the individuals in question were no longer members of the party.

“There is a subsisting judgment from the Federal High Court, Abuja, which clearly affirmed that these individuals are no longer members of the NNPP.

“By failing to bring this judgment to the attention of subsequent courts, they have deliberately withheld material facts to mislead the judiciary,” he said.

He accused the dissenting faction of attempting to sustain what he described as a failed political project through misleading legal tactics, expressing confidence that the Supreme Court would ultimately resolve the matter in favour of the current National Working Committee.

Johnson also called on Nigerians, particularly young people and professionals, to take advantage of the party’s ongoing membership registration exercise across all 8,809 wards and 774 local government areas nationwide.

The development signals NNPP’s early preparations for the 2027 elections, even as it continues to navigate internal leadership challenges.

What you should know

The NNPP has fixed May 26, 2026, for its primaries across all elective positions, adopting a consensus approach nationwide.

The party says it has informed INEC and received validation of its leadership structure following a verification exercise. Amid internal disputes, the NNPP insists its current leadership remains legitimate, dismissing challenges by expelled members.

The move reflects early election preparations as the party positions itself for 2027 while addressing ongoing legal and organisational tensions.
