Nigerian singer-songwriter Asa, whose real name is Bukola Elemide, has announced the death of her mother after a sudden battle with a brain tumour.
The 43-year-old musician shared the sad news in a post on her Instagram page on Tuesday, where she paid tribute to the woman she described as the pillar of her life.

In the emotional message, the award-winning singer described her late mother as a loving and supportive person whose quiet strength helped shape her life and career.
She wrote, “My reason to be, my queen, my everything.”
According to Asa, the illness appeared suddenly and took her mother unexpectedly.
“A sudden brain tumor came without warning and took you too soon,” the singer wrote.
In her tribute, Asa described her mother as a gentle but strong woman.
She said her mother was generous and kind, with a calm personality and a special charm.
“You were extremely shy, and so funny. My biggest fan,” she wrote.
The singer also shared memories of how her mother always supported her music career.
According to Asa, although her mother was not particularly good at singing, she still sang along to all her daughter’s songs with enthusiasm.
“You couldn’t hold a note to save your life, but you sang every one of my songs with your whole heart,” the singer added.
The message ended with a farewell that reflected both her grief and gratitude.
“Your strength, your love, your spirit will remain with me forever. Rest now, Mum,” she wrote.
After the announcement, Asa’s post received many messages of sympathy from fans, colleagues and celebrities in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
