The family of Ihotu John Rebecca has appealed to Nigerians for urgent assistance after her abductors demanded a ₦20 million ransom.
Rebecca, who plays for Pacesetter Queens FC in the NWFL Premiership, was reportedly kidnapped along the Benin Expressway while returning home.

Her abduction has generated concern within the women’s football community and beyond.
According to reports, her family disclosed that the kidnappers have made contact and are demanding ₦20,000,000 for her release.
Describing the situation as urgent and distressing, the family warned that the young player’s life could be in danger if swift action is not taken.
“This is a young woman who has dedicated her life to representing Nigerian women’s football at the highest domestic level. Right now, she is in danger, and time is critical,” the family said in a statement.
They made a passionate appeal to individuals and organisations within and outside the sports community to intervene.
“We are making an urgent appeal to football stakeholders, club executives, sponsors, government officials, sports administrators, and every well-meaning Nigerian who can help,” they added.
Rebecca is considered one of the promising talents in the NWFL Premiership. Her kidnapping has once again raised concerns about security along major highways, including the Benin Expressway.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued any official statement regarding efforts to secure her release.
However, her family maintained that every moment counts as they continue to seek support to ensure her safe return.
